When we drove into Colorado it was like entering a different country than we are used to at home.
The colors were actually green instead of brown and dusty. The temparature was also a welcome few hundred degrees (o.k. I'm stretching) cooler than home. The road leads to the Apple Orchard Inn where we begin our dream week off.
The road trip ended, or should I say began at the Apple Orchard Inn.
A wonderful B and B that we highly recommend for a completely relaxing stay.
This is the Apple Orchard Inn's front door.
What a wonderful, relaxing place.
Here's the back yard of the inn.
There are 5 or 6 cottages in the back yard that can be rented. The grounds are wonderful with beautiful gardens all around.
What a
beautiful pond in the back yard of the inn.
The resident Golden Retriever, "Rowdy".
He went wherever he pleased, including the room if you left your door open.
Downtown Durango.
What a great little town full of historic buildings.
We spent the day at Mesa Verde National park
and toured the Hopi Indian ruins. The tourist are looking up to see any indian spirits that might be returning to earth for a visit. As a believer in one God, I found this a lot far fetched.
This is the river running through Box Canyon park in Ouray. A
n amazing, powerful testimony to God's awesome creative power.
The Aspens and other trees still had some
golden color.
This is our room, dubbed "Granny Smith"
for its green color I suppose. Very comfortable bed.
We took a day trip to Ouray
and loved it. Wouldn't want to live here during the winter though!
Downtown Ouray.
What a quirky little town.
Here we had lunch inside the hotel
in Ouray. This is the outside patio. Too cool that day to eat outside.
Beautiful first snow covers the peaks of Engineer Mountain
outside Durango. I think the summit was close to 12,000 ft. MSL.
The San Juan National Forest
near Durango. How peaceful this was.
